  • Interviews (phone, skype or email)
  • Teleseminars (live with your list to ask questions)
  • Live UStream Sessions (very effective to build trust with your list)
  • Exclusive videos (video is our middle name and we can make something on nearly any topic that deals with blogging and musicians)
  • JV offers (do you have something to compliments our product?)
  • Packages (we have a plethora of other products to bundle together and are creating new ones all the time)

If you want us to do something special for your list, send an email to Greg at marketing@genyrockstars.com with your request and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

The most effective affiliates will get us involved to help shape the marketing and ensure that your list/subscribers/site gets everything it needs in order to be successful (plus good affiliates can get bonuses, access to some of our closed programs and exclusive marketing materials that we use in house).

Article #1: 5 Reasons Musicians Should Use A Wordpress Template Over Myspace.

We all know that Myspace has seen some changes in the last couple years. With the popularity of Facebook and Twitter it seems as if Myspace has been on a decline. But most musicians use Myspace as a way to keep up with their fans and display their music. If this is all that you are doing to market for your band you are missing out on a lot bigger pieces of the online puzzle.

First you have to realize that most people don’t spend the amount of time that they used to on Myspace. The amount of time people do spend there is usually for a purpose. This would be checking their email inside Myspace to trying to find their friends there to see if they can find them on Facebook. The reason is simple why people left, that is because it got bogged down with spam friend requests and it made everyone a web designer, crashing computers while trying to load your friends page.

We also know that the competition there is fierce. Nearly every band tries to promote through Myspace and there are so many distractions that can lead people away from your message or music.

The best strategy now is to have your own website over having it controlled by someone else. Especially when that person is an old man that doesn’t get the internet. So your best bet is to get a template of some sort and promote yourself there. You can do this by using Wordpress.

So without explaining any more of why you should be using wordpress I will tell you why in 5 reasons that Wordpress is better to promote your band than Myspace.

1. You are in control. You handle the traffic, you make sure that your website is communicating the message you want to portray and you control if there is going to be ads everywhere.

2. Your website is focused on you and you only. Again it goes back to people having distractions. Everyone online has A.D.D. So make sure that you don’t let them leave without you getting them to become a fan.

3. You can track what people are doing on your website. You can get an analytics account and track how people came to your site, how long, from where and a whole bunch of other things that will help in your marketing efforts.

4. You can design it to have the modules that you want. Wordpress has sidebars and you can put anything that will help your band sell more Merch or communicate with them how you please.

5. You have the possibility to rank online for your desired keywords. If you learn about SEO and how to market your site correctly, you will have the chance to rank higher in the search engines for your keywords you see fit.

This is just a small list of the things that you can do with a Wordpress band site. There are a slew of things that you could do to further market your message correctly to fans.

Article #2: How Using Wordpress Will Help Bands Communicate With Their Fans Better

If you are in a band and trying to promote yourself online then one of the really important things you will want to do is keep up with your fans and keep them fans. Well I will tell you that having a Flash based website it can be really hard to get that going. And just using Myspace as your means of communicating with people isn’t always the best route. You will want to have other options as well.

With other options I would suggest you use a blogging platform that can help keep in touch with your list. The best one to do this with is going to be Wordpress. It is a blogging platform at its core but it is so much more than that now.

Why Wordpress?

I suggest wordpress because it is really easy to get people talking on your website. You can make special pages that are just for shows that you have done and encourage people to leave their comments about the shows. It also has some really cool addons or widgets that you can use to get more conversation going between you and your fans. Such widgets include things like being able to include your photos from Flickr from the shows they might have been at, your music player with the option to buy that songs, a link to your twitter account with all your recent tweets, your youtube page, the list goes on and on. If you can think of it, then there is a good chance that someone else has thought of it as well.

Ok Wordpress, huh, So How Does It Make People Spread Our Message?

Good question. Well with wordpress you can include Social Bookmarking icons, or “tweet this” or “share on Facebook” or “Share on Myspace”. You can put this at then end of every post you do online. Letting your fans spread your bands message to people that might not have otherwise heard what it is that you have to say. The thing you have to make sure of is making sure your message is worth spreading. I can’t help you there that is something you and your band has to do on their own. But if you have both of these things in place there is a better chance of getting a bigger fan base faster. It will help to bring more people out to your shows and give them a base to communicate with you.

Article #3: Elements All Band Sites Need To Have

If you have a new band site that you are trying to get going, sometimes it can seem daunting with what is needed to really get your website working correctly. We want to help make that process a little bit easier with some suggestions that every band site should not be without.

First thing first you have to have a way for people to listen to your tracks online, with an option to purchase. This is vital, because a lot of times if you have someone coming to your website directly from typing in your URL there is a good chance that they are there for a reason. This reason a lot of times is to make a purchase so please let them do so.

The second thing that you will want to have is a calendar of some sorts that will display your show schedule or your tour dates. This is really important because if someone doesn’t know where you will be how can they come and see your shows.

The third aspect that you will want to have on your website is a newsletter or a way to update your fans of to where you will be at. Nothing will help in building a larger fanbase than a way to keep them updated as to where you are at and when you will be there.

The fourth element that every band website should have is a way to communicate with your fans. This can include a facebook fan page signup or a blog where they can communicate with you about what you are writing about. Your goals are to make your fans become so passionate about your music that you have a worldwide street team working for you telling others about your music and bringing people to your shows and gathering more and more fans.

Other elements that you will want to include may be an easy way for venues to contact you so to book you at some time in the future. Venues will come to you eventually if there is enough hype or your name starts to spread. So an adequate contact page is perfect for this. On the contact page you will want to have different ways for them to contact you. Include a phone number, an email address and a contact form. A tip about the email address, don’t do something like band@gmail.com that doesn’t look professional make sure that the email address is booking@yourbandname.com. This is a simple task but will put your band at a different level to potential booking agents.

As for the contact form you are probably curious as to what to include and how to create one. Well there is a very simple to use website that is free for 1 form. It is called Woofuu, I know that is a very strange name but the product is awesome. It is a drag and drop form builder, no code. Just drag in the options you want to have filled out and then hit create and you have yourself a professional looking web form that will stand out and get all the information you need. As for the information you want to gather it should not be too much as all you are trying them to do is fill out the basics you can get the rest of the information once you speak with them.

This information that needs to be gathered should include.

1. Name
2. Venue
3. Phone
4. Date of Event
5. Notes or Special Instructions

The rest you can figure out once you get them on the phone.

Remember that this is just a basic overview of the elements that you might want to include on your website, there are more but without these necessary elements we would suggest not adding any others till you get these.

Article #4: Where To Find Designers For Album Art Covers

So you might have your album produced and you are almost there and ready to get some sales. Granted you could always just sell them online with out an album cover, but you want to be professional and make your stuff seem like it is worth the price of the purchase. Well please don’t get out Microsoft paint and try to do this yourself. You want to have something created that is professional and bring in more fans. Please don’t skimp on this, as this is the icing on the cake. A lot of people purchase cd’s for the album covers alone.

So now that we have gone over this lets find the places that you use to get your stuff produced and created professionally.

One of the first places that come to mind is local colleges. Many of art students and designers need things to fill their portfolio with. There can be a good chance that one of your fans might be at one of these colleges. Reach out to your fans on your blog and see if they can help you. You never know unless you ask. That would be the first option to go for.

If you want to have a real contest for your design you should head over to a website called 99designs.com. Here you can hold a contest and have designers compete for what you want to have done for your album artwork. Granted you have to pay for this but the quality that you will get from this is usually a lot better than you would expect. The best part about 99designs.com is you are having the entire world compete for what you want. You will be surprised at some of the wonderful artwork you will get from here.

Another way you can reach out to people is through threadless.com. Now this site is mostly for t-shirt design, but you can get in contact with some of the designers there and see if they would be interested designing something for your band.

Article #5: Why Wordpress Is Better For A Band Site Than Flash

If you have ever been to a major acts website there is a good chance that they might have their site designed in Flash. If you are unsure, a good way to tell is if you land on the website and it has to load something or things are moving all over the place in an annoying fashion. These Flash designed sites can be cool to look at, but that time online has passed. Back 4 or 5 years ago before the whole Social Media world, Flash would suffice and really make people think your band was a lot cooler because your website made you look like you are the big dogs.

Well not anymore, we are a web nation of A.D.D. give it to me now or I am leaving your stupid website type of people. It is not about “flash and flare” pun intended, it is more about functionality, searchability and usuability. For this type of success in those 3 functions online, Wordpress is the best thing out.

Flash has become the enemy of so many places online that with the rollout of HTML 5, Flash will soon become a thing of the past. So it goes without saying that if you are planning on having a website designed that you need to have it built in Wordpress. Wordpress is at its core a blogging platform, or a content management system. But it can do a whole lot more than look like a blog. You have the ability to update information on your website, get people involved with comments on your blog, integrate widgets from places like Flickr of your band photos, Youtube of your concerts or any other number of things that can help your band out online.

Another great advantage of using Wordpress is that the search engines will find it online. They love the layout and how the the content is delivered to them, it is like pacman and all the little pellets they just chomp it up. Unlike Flash, where a search bot looks at it and goes…”how about no”, I will just skip this website and maybe just maybe indexed the footer that has the website copywrited information. Make a long story longer, you will not get any type of rankings in the search engines with Flash.

So what we have covered is this, Wordpress is better than Flash because.

1. It is indexable and Flash is not.
2. You can interact with your fans, with Flash you can’t.
3. You can update content at your will and integrate widgets from other websites.
4. Your users will not need to download any plugins to make your website work.
5. Flash is going to be eliminated in the next couple years, Wordpress isn’t going anywhere.

We hope this clears it up as to why you need to use Wordpress. One last benefit that we didn’t mention is that if you are money concious, and being a musician I am sure you are, Wordpress is a tenth of the price of having a Flash designed website.
